Today's lesson launches our 4th and final Module: Taking a Stand.
Learning Target 1: I can get information from photographs about people who are taking a stand about something.
Learning Target 2: I can explain the advantages and disadvantages of gathering information from photographs.
1. We opened class with a Gallery Walk. We examined several Taking a Stand photographs that were posted throughout the room and paused to capture specific details we noticed and the things we wondered about. We then shared out with the class. We discussed what all the photographs had in common and also worked together to find the big idea of each photograph.
2. We then build our background knowledge about Taking a Stand by completing a Frayer Model graphic organizer. We looked at examples of Taking a Stand as found in the photographs, we decided on a definition of what it means to Take a Stand, we established what characteristics or qualities a person who takes a stand has, and also determined some non-examples of what the opposite of taking a stand would be.
3. Our homework today is to complete the T-Chart: Advantages and Disadvantages. We wrote a small paragraph about what we learned about Taking a Stand by looking at the photographs and jot dotted some advantages and disadvantages of using photographs to learn about this topic.
Homework is due and will be collected at the beginning of class tomorrow.
Remember, Position Paper final drafts are due by the end of the day Wednesday. Peer editing forms and position paper rubrics will be collected during class on Wednesday.
