U2L2: Text to Film Comparison (Tue. 5/8)
Learning Targets:
I can analyze how the reader's perspective is different from characters' in Speak and creates an effect for the reader.
I can evaluate the similarities and differences between the novel and the film version of Speak.
Agenda:
We shared our answers to the focus question from yesterday's structured notes with our Albany partners.
We reread "Clash of the Titans" on page 113 and analyzed several quotes for what the adult's were concerned about and thought was the problem with Melinda. Then we explained what we as readers understand about Melinda's behavior that the adults don't seem to.
Next, we reread "Our Lady of the Waiting Room" on page 111. We compared the film to the text looking for how the film stayed faithful to the text, departed from the text, and how the director's choices changed the central message of the text. We will have a quiz over this learning target this Friday.
Homework: Speak pages 127-137 & structured notes. Warning: today's reading will feature what happened to Melinda at the party. It may be disturbing to some readers.
