U2L6: Analyzing Word Choice: Figurative Language (Tue. 5/15)
Learning Targets:
I can identify figures of speech in "The Beast Prowls."
I can determine the meaning of figurative language in "The Beast Prowls."
Agenda:
First we updated our Melinda note-catcher from Lesson 9. We worked with our New York City partners to add two events to the note-catcher.
Then we reviewed what figurative language is and explained several of the most common types (simile, metaphor, hyperbole, alliteration, personification, etc.)
We reread "The Beast Prowls" on page 160 and used the Melinda's Figures of Speech Note-catcher to identify and explain the meanings of several figures of speech used in the chapter.
Homework: Read Speak pages 164-176 and complete structured notes for class tomorrow.
