U2L7: Making Inferences: Analyzing Melinda (Wed. 5/16)

Learning Targets:

  • I can analyze how Speak relates to the theme of Taking a Stand.

  • I can analyze what other characters' treatment of Melinda reveals about her character.

  • I can analyze how Melinda's words and actions reveal her character.

Agenda:

  1. We started off by reviewing our Taking a Stand Frayer Model from Unit 1 Lesson 1. With our Rochester partners we added to the model anything we had learned about taking a stand from reading speak.

  2. Then we participated in a Written Conversation with our Rochester partner. We choose one event from yesterday's reading: Melinda's sick day, yard work, tennis game, or bathroom list and had a silent, written conversation about how this event showed that Melinda One (pre-party Melinda) was growing and getting stronger again.

  3. Homework: Read Speak pages 176-186 & complete structured notes for tomorrow.
