Learning Targets:
I can support my inferences about pages 3-17 of Speak with the strongest evidence from the text.
I can participate in discussion about the text with a partner, small group, and the whole class.
I can analyze what other characters' treatment of Melinda reveals about her character.
I can analyze how Melinda's thoughts and actions reveal her character.
We started class by meeting with our Syracuse discussion appointment partners and reviewing the Structured Notes from Speak pages 3-17. We reviewed the gist of the section, discussed the focus question, and compared vocabulary. Then we turned them in for a grade.
Next, we looked at the Melinda Note-Catcher. This is a character analysis chart that we will use for the entire novel. It is a useful place to collect text evidence that reveals Melinda's character, which is central to understanding the events and themes of the novel. We discussion the first entry, which is completed for us. Then we read the second entry and completed the fourth column, what it reveals about Melinda. We will be adding to this Note-catcher in later lessons.
Finally, we read the homework assignment for today. Speak pages 17-32 and the structured notes (gist, focus question, vocabulary). The reading and notes are due Monday.
Periods 1/3 and 4/5 will have a clean up day tomorrow. Period 6/7 will attend a concert in the PAC after lunch.
