Learning Targets:
I can support my inferences about Speak with the strongest evidence from the text.
I can analyze how the author uses symbols to develop themes in Speak.
Agenda:
We met with our Rochester Discussion Partners and added two events to our Melinda Note-catchers.
We reread the chapter "Code Breaking" on page 100 and decided that if our author, Laurie Halse Anderson was willing to dedicate an entire chapter of her book to talk about the importance of symbolism, then she must have put some symbolism in Speak as well.
We completed a Word Cafe discussion activity to find four symbols in the novel and make inferences about what they might symbolize and how they relate to Melinda.
For homework, we read pages 102-116 and completed the structured notes.
End of Unit 1 test tomorrow over narrative and poem structure.
